PCR Cosmetic Packaging That Still Feels "New" Style

Responsible materials. Uncompromised shelf presence.

Currently there seems to be a strange tension at play in the overall market for skincare packaging.

Many brands want to say "I'm responsible"; however, they still want their bottle to feel crisp, premium, and ready for photos.

The lane this set was intended to fill was that of pcr cosmetic packaging that does not appear to be a compromise.

KEY INSIGHT

The last thing you want is to have "eco" create an impression of "cheap." If you are presenting an environmentally friendly story for your product, it is very important that the package you use gives the "premium" appearance.

The Origin

How this set came into existence

The initial sketch had nothing to do with sustainability-only shelf calm. A bottle was needed that read clean within the product grid, had a modern feel when held, and would allow the label itself not to assume the entire burden of communication. From there, the PCR came into play; keep the same polished look, but move the materials forward.

The other half of the building block was based on the sizes most commonly used in real-life routines: 30ml, 60ml, 80ml, and 100ml. The 30ml is ideally placed for the more valuable high-end steps such as serum or essence or spot treatments. The 60ml and 80ml are good for travel-sized lotions and for most daily use items. The 100ml is a comfortable "main size" for toners.

"The appearance of your packaging should include 'clean-label' design zones, visual simplicity for easy photographing purposes and enough visual space to implement a minimal logo and/or an eye-catching design."

SIZING GUIDE

Four volumes, each with a purpose.

Volume

Best For

Launch Strategy

30ml

Serum, essence, spot treatments - the high-value concentrated steps in a routine.

Ideal trial size when paired with a 100ml hero product.

60ml

Travel-sized lotions and most daily use items.

Strong mid-range option for multi-SKU launches.

80ml

Daily-use lotion and lightweight moisturiser formats.

Comfortable complement to either 60ml or 100ml in a range.

100ml

Toners and any single-SKU hero product.

Safest everyday size; recommended first SKU for a solo launch.

Generally, if you have one SKU at launch (a "hero" product), 100ml is typically the safest every day size. However, if you wish to create multiple products in a routine, the 30ml + 100ml combination can be very effective (trial sized product + daily use sized product).

QUESTIONS ANSWERED

FAQs

  • What does PCR mean?

PCR (Post-Consumer Recycled Content) means post-consumer recycled content is used in new packaging so the packaging has some of the plastic from products used by consumers and not only virgin plastic for each package.

  • Will PCR packaging look different from traditional PET?

Sometimes there will be slight tone differences with PCR vs. virgin, depending on the actual PCR content(s) and color directions. The best example is as "premium" pcr cosmetic packaging because you can pick the finishes or branding that complement a modern everyday looking material.

  • What size container should I create first?

This is based on your launch strategy - generally, if you have one SKU at launch (a "hero" product), 100ml is typically the safest every day size. However, if you wish to create multiple products in a routine, the 30ml + 100ml combination can be very effective (trial sized product + daily use sized product).

  • Are these exclusive to skin care?

Yes, but they can also work well for hair/scalp tonics, lightweight b/moisturisers or any other application where a clean modern bottle high quality product enhances its overall loveability.

  • What custom packaging elements do I find most value in?

Start with one clean labelling system and the same finish direction plus a very small brand enhancement. For most teams, custom packaging with logos and a clean graphic layout will earn more dollars than the cluttered look from multiple custom finishes.

THE BIGGER PICTURE

This is the next actual step toward producing PCR PET bottles and still providing a preferred choice for a contemporary brand.

This is a major reason for designing premium eco-friendly cosmetic packaging: you can set your company up with a line of routine sized products that look similar at retail, perform for real world daily use and provide economic environmental goods. Overall, this is the next actual step toward producing PCR PET bottles and still providing a preferred choice for a contemporary brand.
